Military Online Schools Aren't What You Think They Are

Military online schools, for those in the military or veterans, over the past few years have become very sophisticated and up-to-date. They provide a vast array of career opportunities for those who qualify. The internet is still in it's infancy stages and despite years of consumer use online schooling is growing right along with it.

One of the first things that a qualified military applicant needs to ask themselves is, "Why should I choose online education as opposed to classroom experience?" If you have the time necessary to take schoolroom classes then the question answers itself. However, many in the service of our country don't have the time, and veterans may be busy making an immediate living.

The use of military online schools and their extensive programs provide many advantages, including:

1. Flexibility of Classes. If military personnal are engaged in overseas deployments, field training, or service at sea, then maintaining classroom attendance is obviously not possible.

2. Class Availability. Classes online are available for students whenever they are not called for duty. You may take your lessons at an appropriate time for you.

3. Proven Effectiveness of Courses. A recent study by the U.S. Department of Education has proven that students perform better through online courses.

The next question is, "Are there only effective degrees for active military members, as opposed to veterans?"

The simple answer is, "No." All military members active or retired can receive the same courses. If you are on active duty, and perhaps planing a career in the military, there are a variety of courses to help you achieve your goals. These include:

1. Certificate Programs. These type of programs are sought out by those who wish to pursue Strategic Leadership abilities, and feature background of knowledge in, IT Management, European History, Joint Warfare, and Criminal Justice.

2. Bachelor's Degree. This is important for furthering both a military career or a post military position. A few of the popular degrees pursued by military personnal include: Business Administration, Sociology, and Intelligence Studies, as well as beneficial English and Computer courses.

3. Master's Degree. Gone are the days of easily working your way up the administrative pipeline by mere experience. Both Military governmental positions and the public sector are looking for the most qualified people for the job. This program offers degrees in Public Health, National Securities studies, Environmental Policy, and Management, and Criminal Justice.

The excellent advantage of participating in these online courses is that the GI Bill guarantees education benefits, not only for military personnal but for family members as well. For those who participate, you may be surprised to learn that qualification in online courses may also help you with home ownership, as well as providing start-up for a business, once you have graduated. This helps veterans who enter the personal sector after they have left service for their country.

Each military branch offers separate benefits as well:

1. The Army provides an online college loan program which provides a $35 to $40K repayment program upon qualification.

2. The Navy has a program of repayment up to $65K.

3. The Marine Corps offers up to $35K in repayments.

4. The Air Force will repay up to $10,000 in student loans.

5. The Coast Guard offers a yearly foundation grant, for specific grade levels, which may be used for online education programs. Those who are elegible can also apply for an additional grant through the Vander Putten Education Grant program.

Military online schools also realize that there is nothing like life experience when seeking further education. Veterans and current military personnal can take advantage of life experience courses through many online schools.

It's important to research and review all online schools and courses to find what applies to your current status and what you may gain from your eventual degree. Many online colleges and universities have developed online programs that cater to the needs of military members.

Be certain that when you research your choices that you only investigate accredited learning facilities and make sure that their learning programs facilitate what you are looking for in specific careers of learning. As you can see the benefits offered by the different branches of the military are numerous.
